Journalism is a science and professional activity that, in general terms, consists of the collection and periodic treatment of information in any of its forms and varieties.

As a discipline, journalism is generally located within the communication sciences, although in some countries it is ascribed to sociology.

Likewise, it is considered that often, in journalism, the story you just told is not the one you started to analyze. In fact, good journalists are open to the idea that as they gather more data, the image that emerges may be different from what they originally thought it could be. Sometimes, what they discover leads them to focus on a totally unexpected aspect.

The NRA's self-inflicted wounds

Firearm sales fell 6.1 per cent in the U.S. in 2018, the second straight annual decline. (Bryan Woolston/Reuters)

The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) is a non-profit organization in the United States that defends the rights of arms. Founded in 1871, the group has informed its members about firearms legislation since 1934 and has directly pressed for and against firearms legislation since 1975.

Founded to advance the rifle’s aim, the modern NRA continues to teach safety and firearms competence. The organization also publishes several magazines and sponsors competitive marksmanship events. According to the NRA, it has about 5 million members as of December 2018, although that figure has not been confirmed independently.

Now, the National Rifle Association is beset by scandal and internal strife, which threatens to endanger the future of the arms group.

Is This a Market Melt-Up? Here Are Some Ways to Tell

There is no doubt that stocks are once again hot, to which a question arises, is this a market that melts? Here are some ways to say.

It should be noted that after a fall at the end of last year, benchmark indices have been rising as investors continue to accumulate, setting new historical highs in the process. This way, more questions continue to arise, such as, is this other rally justified by moderate pivots of the main central banks around the world, green shoots in the global activity and earnings results that are surpassing the expectations of Wall Street? Or is it something that sounds like alarms, a fusion?

Even so, Larry Fink, who is the CEO of BlackRock Inc., said he thought a merger might be a possibility since the money that had been moved aside after a massive sale at the end of last year returned to the markets.

Doctors contend surgery delays are worse after B.C. government-mandated compliance letters

Dr. Amin Javer and his team perform sinus surgery on a patient at False Creek Surgery Centre in Vancouver. That is where Mr. Justice John Steeves had his sinus surgery under a contract with Vancouver Coastal Health. But the provincial government has severed contracts between health authorities and clinics that allow patients to pay for their expedited surgeries. ARLEN REDEKOP / PNG

A judge has reserved a decision on a court order on letters of compliance. BC insists that doctors must sign. In this way, doctors claim that surgical delays are worse after the compliance letters required by the BC government

It is necessary to emphasize that patients expect even more time for operations such as the reconstruction of the breasts or sinuses due to the government’s latest repression in private clinics and the surgeons who work in them, according to the sworn statements presented to the court.

It should be noted that currently there are surgeons who only receive four days of operating room per month, which only allows them to manage only 12 to 16 cases per month. Even so, they were performing their Surgical Center surgical procedures. However, last fall the government ordered Vancouver Coastal Health to end its contracts with False Creek because the center was also receiving money from patients who paid the clinic’s facility fees for accelerated surgery. Now, it is important to mention that False Creek is the only private clinic in BC with the sophisticated equipment that doctors need to perform delicate operations.

Conrad Black: Donald Trump's nationalism is of all colours

Conrad Black in a recent article dated April 26, 2019, emphasizes that with regret he must address a rather strenuous issue. In fact, he assures that Donald Trump’s nationalism is of all colors.

Likewise, he criticizes an opinion article published on the CBC’s website on April 16th by his cordial cyber-acquaintance Neil Macdonald, entitled “Why Conservative Politics is such a natural home for white supremacists? “. In the same Neil, it is proposed to answer the question with a completely false sequence of affirmations and deductions.

Similarly, Black states that inevitably, Donald Trump is the main criminal. That being the case, he quotes Macdonald, “ He proudly calls himself a nationalist, without specifying what kind; ‘Use that word,’ he says to his angry, overwhelmingly white base, ‘Use that word.’”Now, it establishes that it is a white country of 70 percent, and the president has very extensive non-white support, especially among Americans of Latin and Asian origin. Its base is upset about the 20 years of misrule that preceded Trump: the unfruitful Middle East wars and humanitarian disaster.

Tim Leiweke on why the Seattle NHL team could be ‘the greatest story’

Timothy J. Leiweke is an American sports executive who is the CEO of Oak View Group. Leiweke was the former president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) and the former president and CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG). Leiweke had approximately a 4% stake in AEG starting in 2012 and is well known for his relationship with the notoriously lonely founder of AEG and Denver-based billionaire Philip Anschutz, whom he has known since the early nineties. Since November 2015, Leiweke has served as CEO of Oak View Group, “a global advisory, development and investment company for the live sports and entertainment industries.”

Now, he is back in hockey. It’s not that Leiweke has really left.

He became the co-founder of Oak View Group, based in Los Angeles, in 2015, after leaving Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, the parent company of the Maple Leafs and the NBA Raptors, where he was president and CEO.

Likewise, Leiweke’s younger brother, Tod, is the president and CEO of NHL Seattle, and Oak View is the developer of the KeyArena renovation project. Last week, the Seattle Times reported that the project cost is expected to exceed $ 900 million. The expansion hockey team will join the NHL for the 2021–22 season, led by a group of owners with majority owner David Bonderman and Hollywood film and television producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Ross McKitrick: Hold the panic: Canada just warmed 1.7 degrees and … thrived

Tell everyone over and over that the climate is changing, and soon they will see proof of change everywhere, writes Ross McKitrick. Getty Images

Much has been speculated and in fact, a certain panic has been maintained. Despite this, it is necessary to highlight that Canada only warmed 1.7 degrees and still prospered.

In this way, a recent report, commissioned by Environment and Climate Change Canada, has triggered a feverish attack on media coverage. It should be noted that much of this eliminated the owner’s claim that Canada heated up “twice as fast” as the entire planet since 1948. So if this is really bad, what should the finding be that the Atlantic region of Canada was heated twice as fast as the Prairies? Or that Canadian winters warmed twice as fast as summers?

It is necessary to emphasize that one of the psychological effects of a report like this, and the exaggeration of the media, is that they inculcate ideas in people’s heads. Tell everyone over and over again that the weather is changing, and you will soon see evidence of change everywhere. Rain, snow, wind, floods or dry periods; It seems that everything confirms the theory, although we have always had these things.
