Canadian asylum system collapse | National Post

Ahmed Hussen, who is the immigration minister, constantly states that the nation has a "strict and efficient system of immigration and border control," but a letter has been leaked where it makes clear that in fact, Canada has a backward asylum system and that in the same way "is not sustainable".

On the other hand, Barbara Jo Caruso, president of the immigration law section of the Canadian Bar Association, emphasizes that Hussen considers how to reform the backward asylum system but also does not give the necessary information on the matter nor the changes that the government of Justin Trudeau carried out regarding the situation. For June, a report was produced in which a specific recommendation was given requesting a review by the Board of Immigration and Refugees (IRB). As a result, the department has conducted a thorough analysis of the findings and recommendations of the report, but it would be too early to speculate on future changes in the asylum system, according to Hussen in the letter.
