A $100,000 round-the-world cruise -- by luxury jet

Around the world by air: If you want to travel around the world in Abercrombie & Kent's customized Boeing 757, it'll set you back at least $140,000. Justin Weiler/Abercrombie & Kent

It should be noted that earlier this year, the world’s longest passenger cruise ship departed from London. Thus, it is understood that this is a 245-day luxury trip in Viking Cruises that covers six continents, 51 countries, and 111 ports.

Likewise, it is appropriate to mention an attractive and convenient option for those who want to see multiple destinations in a global epic adventure, but lack the time or disposition for a long sea voyage. Well, there is always an air cruise. A specially configured chartered plane embarks on an itinerary of two to three weeks, often around the world, stopping at world-class destinations along the way, such as Easter Island, Machu Picchu and the Taj Mahal.

It is important to indicate that it is not cheap and that most products are for the few who can afford a vacation above the $ 100,000 mark, although some more “budget” options are beginning to appear.

A view of the travel market for 2020

Abercrombie and Kent, a pioneer in the field of air cruises, Abercrombie & Kent flew people around the world in 1989, aboard a luxury Lockheed L-1011 Tristar aircraft. Then they increased the glamor a couple of points by renting the Concorde for their air cruises worldwide. Although the specially configured Boeing 757 that it now uses is a bit slower, it is still a very premium kit.

Four stations, in 2015, the high-end Canadian hotel chain launched its own air cruises. A Boeing 757 was also the aircraft chosen for this offer. The jet, painted from nose to tail in an elegant and striking black, acts as the brand’s ambassador while flying around the world, with the Four Seasons logo stamped on its fuselage. Inside, there are 52 reclining seats and a cabin that aims to replicate the kind of experience that Four Seasons hotels offer on the ground.

Crystal cruises, it should be noted that also at the top end of the market, Crystal Cruises has diversified to fly with nothing less than a Boeing 777, a long-range and wide-body jet that has been equipped with a luxury cabin with 88 seats Fully reclining, a dedicated stand-up bar and social lounge. The jet, called Crystal Skye, is available for private charter, rather than scheduled itineraries. Customers with a lot of money can design their customized air cruise itineraries or choose one of Crystal’s global travels.

Around the world in a Qantas Jumbo, if you are looking for something a little more accessible, the Australian firm Constellation Journeys offers a complete circumnavigation of the globe aboard a Boeing 747–400 aircraft at prices ranging between $ 15,000 and $ 50,000. The iconic Jumbo plane is leased in the wet by the Australian airline Qantas, which provides the crew and deals with the flight aspects of the route.
