Canada joins multilateral move to take Venezuelan government to International Criminal Court | CBC News

Canada joins the multilateral movement, uniting with five South American nations to sign a formal request for the International Criminal Court to investigate the Venezuelan government of Nicolás Maduro. Likewise, between those countries besides Canada are also Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, and Peru to sign the reference. It is important to note that due to the crisis in Venezuela, each of these countries has received migrants who flee from this situation. It has been suggested that Canada's decision to refer Venezuela could be taken as a show of support for the ICC, an institution in which the nation believes it is being attacked.

Similarly, a signing ceremony for the recommendation will be held on Wednesday morning at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Trudeau has established at the UN summit that Canada will defend human rights at home and abroad. In addition, on Wednesday, Trudeau was asked in New York what kind of message he sent to the US.
