Panama, an excellent destination for 2019

Panama is a country in Central America. Bordered by Costa Rica to the west, Colombia to the southeast, the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. The capital and largest city is Panama City, whose metropolitan area is home to nearly half the country’s 4 million people.

Tourism in Panama is growing rapidly. It has maintained its growth in the last five years due to government taxes and price discounts for foreign guests and retirees. Real estate developers in Panama have increased the number of tourist destinations in the last five years due to the interest in these incentives for visitors.

It should be noted that Panama City turns out to be really attractive because it is the oldest and continuously occupied European settlement on the Pacific coast of the Americas. Being that it is 500 years old. There are ancient walls, glass skyscrapers and a mixture of African, native Panamanian and Spanish cultures. This combination has had such an impact that it has helped to form the frantic “Miami of Central America”.

Preserving and respecting ancient treasures

Despite the innovation and new constructions, preserving its historical treasures is indispensable. In such a way that in the historic center of Casco Viejo there are several innovative restaurants built inside restored colonial buildings. Meanwhile, on remote islands where hiking trails are dotted with pre-Columbian pottery and protected wildlife, the new eco-resorts are finally putting Panama on the map of sustainable tourism.

Likewise, over time it is more clearly observed that cultural progress is more visible in Casco Viejo, the old city center. In fact, it has been transformed into a stylish access point and into the UNESCO World Heritage site.

According to Rob Harper, who is a resident of Panama and co-owner of Namu Travel Group “The building codes in Casco Viejo are well managed, supporting the view that this unique part of the city maintains its colonial roots”, he added. “They want the architecture looks as close as possible to its original version”.

Meanwhile, the Gulf of Chiriquí remains wild and intact. Which encourages a feeling of discovery, its golden sand beaches, and its jungle paths offer a more bucolic viewpoint than a rooftop party in the capital.
