Davos is an alpine city and a municipality in the Prättigau / Davos region in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. It has a permanent population of 10,937 (2017). Davos is home to the World Economic Forum (WEF), an annual meeting of global political and business elites (often referred to simply as “Davos”). This was founded in 1971 as a non-profit organization. He obtained formal status in January 2015 under the Host State Act of Switzerland, confirming the role of the Forum as an International Institution for Public-Private Cooperation. The mission of the Forum is cited as “committed to improving the state of the world through the participation of business, political, academic and other leaders of society to shape the global, regional and industry agendas”.
As already mentioned, the WEF organizes an annual meeting at the end of January in Davos, a mountain resort in Graubünden, in the Eastern Alps region of Switzerland. The meeting brings together some 2,500 business leaders, international political leaders, economists, celebrities and journalists for up to four days to discuss the most pressing problems facing the world.
Stage of globalization that could make the world much more decent, democratic and distributed
Certainly as expected, the commercial struggle between the United States and China and the uncertain course of Brexit, had the meeting on the edge. However, serious conversations focused on what was beyond those crises. And this year’s theme was Globalization 4.0. This concept was created in Davos to explain the next era of intelligent and ubiquitous technologies. They will connect everyone and everything in a way that the previous engines of globalization (steam, electricity, and computing) could not. In this way, in this new era, intelligent machines will shape our businesses and communities. While the advanced technologies will be integrated with each object, and perhaps in each person with whom we are.
In fact, it has already been said that this era will revolutionize everything. Being that it will be a time that will be transformed into new water, the soul of everything that our society will want and need. However, it is possible that prospects can be disconcerting.
In this way, transforming technologies and a new generation of thinking could take our world to the next stage of globalization. They could get to the point where they could transform it and make it more decent, democratic and distributed.
