Political Party Challenges Canada’s Equalization Scheme

A rebel wing of the Canadian political right is shaking a Canadian pillar by challenging a scheme of redistribution of government revenues. The purpose of this is to support comparable public services in all provinces. Without depending on your economic stature. In fact, it has been said that the political party in charge of this has a purpose. Forge an industrial missing link designed to break the environmental disdain that blocks hydraulic fracture. In addition to the construction of pipes in the Eastern half of the country.

It should be noted that the party that is in charge of this is the People’s Party of Canada, which is a right-wing federal political party in Canada. Recall that the party was formed by Maxime Bernier, who was the former minister of the cabinet and candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada. The party has formed constituency associations in the 338 constituencies of Canada and plans to present a full list of candidates in the 43rd Canadian federal election. He is only four months old.

Politics of Bernier and his party

Now, during a televised roundtable in Quebec, Bernier called his policy “intelligent populism.” The central idea is to make the provinces participate in the development of resources by cutting the federal government brochures. Although Bernier is a member of the Parliament of Quebec, his approach strikes popular chords in natural gas and oil produced by Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia, which are net contributors to equalization.
Addressing the audience, his words were, “We need to change the formula [of equalization] to create incentives for other provinces to develop public policies that create wealth.”

For some, both the platform and the vocabulary of the People’s Party of Canada promote comparisons with Donald Trump. However, Bernier has different backgrounds from the president of the United States. Being that he has been a prominent lawyer and banker, he has also won four consecutive elections to the Parliament and likewise was the minister in the old conservative cabinet. And do not forget the fact that the possibility of winning the conservative leadership election of 2017 as runner-up with 49% of the party’s votes was narrowly missed. In this way, he seeks a review of the equalization program in the name of fostering economic development.

On the other hand, it is necessary to mention that for Bernier as for Kenney, the electoral victories would only initiate the national struggles to change the equalization program.
