Multiculturalism is a sham, says Angela Merkel

Angela Dorothea Merkel is a German politician serving as German Chancellor since 2005. She served as the leader of the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) from 2000 to 2018. Merkel has been widely described as the de facto leader of the European Union, the most powerful woman in the world, and, following the election of Donald Trump as US President, by many commentators as the new leader of the Free World.

In October 2018, Merkel announced that she would not seek reelection as leader of the CDU at the party convention in December 2018 and as Chancellor in 2021.

Now, it is necessary to say that the refugee policy of German Chancellor Angela Merkel has received praise from around the world. Certainly, Time magazine and the Financial Times newspaper recently named her Person of the Year, and delegates applauded her for so long at her party’s convention on Monday that she had to stop them.

Surprise speech

It should be noted that Merkel’s speech may have surprised supporters of his policies, “Multiculturalism leads to parallel societies and therefore remains a ‘life lie’” or a sham, she said, before adding that Germany may be reaching its limits in terms of accepting more refugees. “The challenge is immense”, she said. “We want and we will reduce the number of refugees noticeably”.

Certainly, some have said that, although these observations may seem uncharacteristic of Merkel, she would probably insist that she not contradict herself. In fact, he was only repeating a feeling he expressed for the first time several years ago when he said that multiculturalism in Germany had “failed completely.”

“Of course the tendency had been to say, ‘Let’s adopt the multicultural concept and live happily side by side, and be happy to be living with each other.’ But this concept has failed, and failed utterly, “she said in 2010.

Repeating those ideas on Monday was intended to calm his supporters, who have grown increasingly tired of the influx of refugees. Newcomers, Merkel stressed, must assimilate to German values and culture, and respect the laws of the country.

Merkel stressed that despite his commitment to limit the influx of refugees, he maintained his decision to open borders early this fall.
