Conrad Black: The Liberals are failing us on many fronts

The handling of the COVID-19 crisis by the various governments in Canada has been diligent and sincere, but the goal of eliminating the virus completely as in New Zealand was always a fantasy, and now it is completely unbearable burden for the country. Unless a vaccine is uncovered soon (unlikely), the only economically sustainable way to treat this disease until the vaccine is ready is through what is fully described as “herd immunity.”.

For its part, Canada essentially followed the initial international model of a shutdown to curb the rise and spread of the disease so as not to overload the health care system. And it is that according to data obtained in the three months of general closure indicated that approximately 80 percent of deaths occur in 20 percent of people with challenged immunity systems, especially the elderly, and it became clear that the only course Practical was to focus entirely on protecting the vulnerable and bringing the rest of society back to normal as quickly as possible. Given that more than 90 percent of people in all age groups have minimal symptoms or no symptoms, such a policy, if carefully structured and respected, need not inflict difficulties on many people.

A virus that has left consequences at all levels

Certainly allowing the coronavirus to spread among people healthy enough to reject it without serious discomfort constantly reduces its danger, as it becomes very weak if you return to a survivor. This is “collective immunity” and it was always the only way to beat this virus before a vaccine was available.

Now, the federal government has been seeking a will for viral eradication, and the economic consequences of the coronavirus have reached horrible proportions. Lack of economic competitiveness has been a substantial and growing problem throughout the Trudeau years. Likewise, it has been said that everything is a piece since we follow the entire world in the reopening of the economy as capital flees from the country and the national debt skyrockets as the Prime Minister feathers the nest of his friends, undertakes the war in Alberta and the oil and gas industries for spurious climatic reasons.

There is no doubt that if we do not build and strengthen our own country sensibly, we will be resistant to those who compete with us. If this team does not rediscover the government’s purpose, it will not be personifying the regime even until the end of this mandate.
