Rex Murphy: From whee to woe: Why did Trudeau ever think WE deal would fly?

What has made the news is the cancellation of the agreement with the Kielburger boys, Marc and Craig, to distribute $912 million from Canadian taxpayers. It is certainly over. Being that they have canceled.

Certain changes from one day to the next are causing great discomfort, in fact, some discomfort has been specifically expressed. Just as one moment you’re a charity, elevated to working with the big boys, while the next, you realize this isn’t going to fly. Absolutely. Likewise, one day she is offering rewards of $ 12,000 to school teachers who can catch at least 75 young volunteers. The next, the reward is withdrawn, the teachers cry, the volunteers are not recruited.

Another clear example of this could be that one day, the Prime Minister of Canada vehemently argues that he is the only organization that can manage a $912 million “paid volunteer” fund, that the country’s noble civil service, which already manages the $ 169 billion that the Emperor of the cabin has unleashed on the country — it cannot. Then the next day you can.

Various factors at stake

It should be noted that this is not all since when talking about changes, there are several factors that could be at stake.

Likewise, news of a major “disruption” in the administration of the WE headquarters, simultaneous resignations of large numbers of its boards of directors, former presidents who resigned and published mischievous tweets about some of WE’s claims, may have exerted a Painful pressure in delicate places and raised questions that you would not normally raise about WE and its octopoid companies.

The deal certainly couldn’t look good for the tens of thousands of people who have been through the scandal during COVID, those small business owners with a lifetime job behind them, likely bankrupt, the low-scale wage earner. In fact, the choice to make nearly $ 1 billion Kielburgers dealers invoke a completely predictable angry, and hostile response.

It could also do a lot to deal with the wild treatment of the elderly in nursing homes. A billion dollars spent to hire more staff, have better regulation, provide dignified and professional care, would be the mark of a government that cares. But the idea must have been that passing money on to “paid volunteers”, all youth, was a more attractive proposition.
