James Alexander Michie: Partnerships in possible conflict

America and Europe are separated by a growing gap. President Donald Trump blames Europeans in bad faith and massive vandalism. A second summit between Vladimir Putin and Trump in a surprising and unthinkable way catches the attention because a US president treats his Russian rival better than his own allies.

Even so, if the summits took place without any controversy as it should be, the political cultures found will remain the same and the priorities, but the same thing is somewhat complex for President Trump who really enjoys confusing his critics.

The western alliance is in trouble, which should disturb Europe, the United States and the world. Of course each alliance has its tensions, but it should be noted that the Western alliance is compromised by a disconcerting set of fronts. The US right chooses to condemn European support for the Iranian nuclear agreement, while lawmakers from both parties believe that Europeans deserve less time.

It is important to emphasize that the Western alliance is worthwhile and necessary in the world, which is becoming increasingly arbitrary and dangerous. It can be saved by taking into account some of the actions that could lead to a change, the work should be made much simpler, that is, not doing difficult work, the supporters of the alliance should be practical and pay for things that would cause a difference such as investing more in defense. Also, for US allies, being practical also means keeping up and staying together.
