James Alexander Michie: US industries frightened by the actions taken by Donald Trump | CBC News

Author: James Alexander Michie

Donald Trump has made a great impact with each of the measures he takes regarding the "Welfare" of his country that now his own industry groups raise their voices and send a message to it, in this case, the automotive industry (Manufacturers of national and international automobiles, suppliers, dealers and car care companies).

Likewise, they send a letter to the US president, which reflects various requests such as fair trade through policies that do not expose the jobs of American citizens, the economy of their nation or the technological leadership that with much effort the United States has achieved.

It is expected that Donald Trump, if he does not listen to the Foreign Minister of Canada, Chrystia Freeland, about the advantages that a Free Trade Agreement of North America would bring, at least listen to the requests of his own people. In Washington, hearings are being held to determine if imported cars are a threat to national security, thus obtaining up to 25% of the import tax proposed by Trump for automobiles and auto parts.

In the same way, it was estimated that the nations that could be affected by this would give their opinion, however, are the companies from the USA. UU those that have been noticed more like their concerns, afraid of becoming martyrs of the measures that the president of their nation is taking, but those who defend the protectionist plan assure that what is really trying to achieve is the benefit for the industries and the workers of the United States, for them under these measures that objective can be reached, arguing in the same way that tariffs alienate foreign competition while national producers will have a safe progress.

However, manufacturers in the United States do not have the capacity to produce enough so that they can replace the imports that are now tariffed and of course their costs are higher.
